It’s been long overdue since I have had the pleasure of doing a cake smash!! Me and the concept of cake smashes has always been a love and hate relationship over my time being a photographer if I’m honest! The core of my business has always been to capture authentic, pure, and candid moments. Cake smashes to me always seemed posed and proppy, which is something I am not aiming for!
I’ve tried different ways to incorporate my style into cake smashes, from a minimalist style to simple and luxe ways of going about it. Because at the end of the day, my clients are celebrating a baby’s first year of life! What’s not to celebrate about that?!
I can finally say that I found a way to merge cake smash sessions to feel more authentic to the rest of the work I create! <3
I am so proud of this cake smash! The family was amazing to work with and it flowed and looked even better than I could have ever pictured it to be! First things first we have to give baby Kate her MOMENT! She really took over this sesh, and her personality came shining through!
From her adorable but simple neutral colored dress, to the equally cute head piece, baby Kate rocked this shoot! As a photographer that works with kiddos from newborn, to full on pre teens and beyond, it’s important to note that every child is different and the way they react to having their photos taken will vary.
If there is one thing I’ve learned is just to go with the flow and allow the child to act freely and be as comfortable as possible! Even if you get cake frosting everywhere. Happy babe, happy life right? I hope you enjoy this beautiful gallery, and I am soooo excited for more cake smash sessions! I have more lined up and couldn’t be more stoked! <3
See you on the studio!
Love, Natalie
